Generic Corrections

White Balance

The White Balance tools calibrates the image’s colours, the white balance. We aim to adjust all colours in a way to make white/grey parts of the images really appear in white/grey and that there is no colour cast in the image. Usually the camera itselfs tries to find the right white balance when taking the picture. At least in natural daylight conditions results are quite useable.

In contract to the Lab Eyecandy tab this one works in RGB color space.

Black and White

The Black and White tool is the most versatile filter available to convert images from colour to greyscale.

Opacity controls how much colour is removed.

Lensfun

Lensfun is a set of filters dealing with errors and distortions introduced by imperfect lenses – and no lens is perfect. Lensfun is used to

	* correct lateral/transversal chromatic aberration,
	* correct vignetting,
	* correct geometric distortions like barrel, pincushion or mustache distortion,

Spot Tuning

This tool allows you to correct specific parts of the image.

In principle all filters on the other tabs work on the whole image, though they might be constrained by global masks (like a luminance mask in Gimp). The difference with this tool is, that the masks used for calculation are local. So, when you add a new spot, you click on the image and Photivo gets the position and the color values of that pixel. Starting from these two values a local mask is …

The contrast filters (curves, gamma compensation, sigmoidal contrast) on this tab are always applied to your image, also when the tab preview for another tab is enabled.

Background: During the processing of this tab the color space conversion from linear RGB to the preview or output profile is calculated. So, in most cases the image will be transformed to sRGB. With this transformation the image gets a lot brighter (you don't see this in Photivo) since the gamma curve o…
